A fracture like this will not only be compound, but is likely to cause damage to vessels, nerves and other structures. It is also likely to result in infection and osteomyelitis and considerable bone loss. This severe injury will require not only resuscitation of the patient, but also exploration, debridement and repair of vessels and nerves. It will also require stabilisation and reduction of the fractures, by external fixateurs or by internal fixation..
